The mission of the Reigner Reading Room is to acquire a wide range of materials related to the practice and understanding of the educational ministry of the church and to promote their use at the Seminary and in churches. As such, the Reigner Reading Room is integral to the Christian Education Department's effort to prepare men and women for the educational ministry of the church.

History and Location

The Reigner Reading Room opened in North Hall on the Tennent Campus in 1953 and moved to Speer Library in 2004. It is located on the first floor, adjacent to the Reference Desk and Academic Services Office.

Collections

The Reigner Reading Room maintains a collection of books, curricula, audiovisuals, and electronic resources for all age groups, from preschool to senior adults.

Reigner regularly acquires the newest and best materials for youth ministry, worship, church year celebrations, adult and youth Bible studies, children's ministry, multicultural education, and intergenerational programs. Older publications are in the Speer stacks.

Sunday School and VBS curricula of all major denominations and publishers are available for examination and browsing.

CDs, CD-ROMs, DVDs, audio cassettes, slide sets, videos, posters, pictures, and games are part of the diverse collection of resources that may be borrowed. A large collection of audiovisual materials, electronic resources, and teaching videos will be of special interest to students in field work.

For both experienced and novice church educators, the Reigner collection is an invaluable resource for support; it also provides an introduction to the newest materials.

Information about Reigner holdings is available through the Seminary Library's online catalog- Endeavor's VOYAGER system. The Seminary Library web site is http://www.ptsem.edu/Library

The staff will assist you in locating and recommending resources for all your program needs. Reigner staff will provide help in person, by phone, or by e-mail.

Special curriculum events and teaching and learning seminars are planned periodically for the community.

Who may use the Reigner Reading Room?

Reigner kidsBorrowing privileges are free to students and graduates of Princeton Theological Seminary. For a yearly fee of $50, an individual not associated with the Seminary may purchase basic borrowing privileges. For the same fee a church may designate one contact person as eligible to borrow materials. A church may add up to three additional borrowers for $10 each. Membership must be renewed annually. Patrons are welcome to use Speer and Luce Libraries as well. You may bring other church members to examine and browse through the resources to plan your educational programs for the year.
