EditClassification Scheme
Many of the books within the Barth collection have been classed under the broad heading of BX4827.B3 which should be used only for biographical materials about Barth. In order to make the collection more valuable we will be reviewing each title and re-classifying it accordingly.
Tools:
- Classification Web (ClassWeb)
- Library of Congress Subject Headings - in print in the Metadata Librarian's office
In addition to finding appropriate subject headings for the titles, they should be compared to the
Bibliographie Karl Barth. If the title appears in the Bibliography, write the number in pencil on the first page of the book.
Once new headings have been chosen, fill out
one of these forms and slip it in the book before handing it off for re-cataloging.
Once the books are re-classed,
these and
these are the rules for the processing student.
EditDe acidification, Donations and Wildi Numbers
Many of the books in the Barth collection come from donation sets (Puchinger or Markus Barth), but this information is not in the catalog. Books in this collection have also been de-acidified or contain a handwritten notation regarding where to find the item in Wildi's Bibliographie Karl Barth.
Using the
following form, a student will go through each book and make notes regarding these three items so that they can be entered into the catalog for future reference and for the general enhancement of the collection.
EditCataloger's notes
Add the following based on the form:
510 4_ |a Bibliographie Karl Barth, |c w-265
561 __ |a Acquired from George Puchinger, with his bookplate, 1999.
590 __ |a Library's copy signed "G. Puchinger."
583 __ |a deacidify |c 2000
730 0_ |a George Puchinger collection
If there is more than one copy (one in main and one in Barth) then add the subfield j to the 583 specifying that it is the Barth copy that has been deacidified.
